Medical PROGRAM
SHARES Family Medicine Program focuses on partnering with local physicians and health care providers in the host country. The medical team provides general medicine consultations, focused on diabetes and preventative medicine, to families in rural areas of Latin America who have health care problems.
Part of this focus is recognizing the key role mothers play in the health of their children and how important it is for them to stay healthy too. That’s why in addition to our family medical consultations, we have added a women’s health component to our medical trips that focuses on cervical cancer screenings. Cervical cancer is a serious women’s health problem in developing countries, killing approximately 200,000 every year.

Surgical PROGRAM
SHARES surgical teams, comprised of skilled plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and other volunteers, travel to strategically selected cities in Latin America to provide reconstructive surgery to children suffering from physical and emotional distress caused by facial deformities.
SHARES has helped alleviate the suffering for more than 2,400 children with cleft lips and/or palates.
Physical Therapy PROGRAM
The SHARES Physical Therapy Program strives to provide basic developmental services to disabled children living in orphanages in Kingston, Jamaica .
The SHARES team, consisting of an occupational therapist, physical therapists, speech therapists and other developmental specialists, travel to Kingston each year. While in Jamaica , the team members evaluate the children’s disabilities and recommend treatment strategies.
Efforts have been made to teach the staff how to carry out the suggested treatment. Thanks to our partnership, significant improvements have been noted in the children who are being helped by these volunteers.
